Big Talk

Here’s a Ted Talk we watched in class:

If you would like to know more and/or decide to make a change of this magnitude in your own life, want to see what Kalina Silverman is up to now, ask her a few questions, or just do your own research, here is her blog:

6e658b0c1b9b7e8f620278d682d06565.gif …(based on Kalina’s Talk, of course):

  • What would you do if you were to die tomorrow?
  • What would you do if you were granted to do anything in the world you wanted and no consequences ensued?
  • Whom has made the biggest impact on your life? Why them?
  • Do you know where you’re going once you die?
  • Where do you want to be in five years?
  • What if these were questions we asked people on a regular basis?

Would we be able to change the world, simply by asking questions that go deeper than the commonplace “nice weather” and “how are you” conversations? Could this small change in conversational topics be enough to strengthen relationships nationwide? Could this be the spark that ignites cultural rejuvenation and enrichment?

You might think this is some “Big Talk” (hehehehe) coming from a small-town gal like me, but can you deny the validity of any of them? I get nostalgic watching old black-and-white movies, reading old books, listening to old music, simply because there was so much life and character ingrained into all of it!! My generation is stuck with is lifeless, boring, repetitive everything. Our movies revolve around action and sex, our music isn’t soulful or inspiring unless you dig through miles of clouded pop to reach the good stuff, and most of the books we churn out are pretty generic and dull. Where’s the spice, the grit, the charisma, the character that used to define our culture?? It has slowly been dwindling for many decades; a little more of it is extinguished every day as more and more of the people who built this great nation die of old age. How can we inspire this next generation of Americans to turn the country around and reclaim what once defined us? Personally, I believe that the first major step we need to take is changing our priorities to match God’s, but a close second is restoring the strength and value of interpersonal relationships, a step that can be megaboosted by using “Big Talk” in our everyday conversations!!

Here’s an awesome video that mixes some modern music with old media (sorry about the cuss word):

What about you? What are some questions you’d like to ask people, but because of societal limitations on conversational topics, you aren’t able to? Would you like to see our generation be the one that reclaims the character of America?
